Bathinda : Sukhpal Singh Khaira President of Punjab Ekta Party (PEP), contesting Bathinda Lok Sabha seat on Monday lambasted former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for trying to trivialize the issue of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib committed during his government and comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with legendary former US president Abraham Lincoln.
Addressing series of election meetings in Multaina, Tiona, Jhanbha, Sardargarh, Virk Khurd, Gulabgarh, Kotshamir villages of Bathinda, Khaira said that sins of Badal family would not become lesser by downplaying the issue of sacrilege. He said that it was shameful that Badal has suggested to voters, sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib was no so important. He reminded Badal that sacrilege is indeed a key issue in this election besides non-performance of Modi and Badal governments.
Khaira said that four youth who were protesting against sacrilege were killed in Nakodar in 1986 when Badal was Chief Minister and two youth were killed in Behbal Kalan for the same reason during Badal government in 2015. He said that Badal was man of dead conscience and now demanding votes for his daughter in law Harsimrat Kaur Badal in the name of Narendra Modi.
Khaira said that Badal had touched 93 years of age and people of Punjab made him Chief Minister five times which he didn’t deserve. He stood exposed for his alignment with RSS and Congress. He alleged that Badal was party to army attack on Harmandir Sahib and held secret meetings with PC Alexander an advisor of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Khaira said that it was sad that Badal compared Modi with former US president Lincoln, Modi had also called Badal Nelson Mandela of Punjab. He criticised Modi and Badal for their dubious credentials. Modi is anti-minority while Lincoln was a statesman who secured minorities and transformed America into world power.
