Ludhiana : Aam Aadmi Party leader HS Phoolka has written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that the detention of Bikram Singh, who had hurled a shoe at the Chief Minister, amounted to “violation” of human rights.
He said it was an attempt by the Akali government to “terrorise the unemployed youth and muffle the voice of people of Punjab”.
In his letter to the NHRC Chairman, Phoolka said Bikram was arrested by the Khanna police on August 15 under Sections 101 and 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code. “Both these offences are bailable. When the accused was ready to furnish the bail bond, he should have been released. But the police kept him in custody the whole night and the next day registered another case against him under Sections 332, 353, 355, 506 and 186 of the IPC,” he alleged.
