Chandigarh: Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday attacked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal over the alleged pitiable condition of the state-run schools, and said the situation mocks the very model of development touted by his government.

It is shocking that schools continue to operate without buildings... while the state government has listed school education as its priority and made claims about improving the academic standards, Bajwa was quoted as saying in a statement.

He alleged that ‘the schools where children belonging to weaker sections study are being totally and wilfully neglected.’

Since 2007, Badal had been trying to push the Adarash schools project under the PPP model and even that has failed to garner the desired response, he said.

The PPCC chief said that he was raising this issue in the view of the announcement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address the students of the country on Teachers’’ Day on September 5 and such schools were in a fix to arrange TV sets or radios.

He said the availability of teachers in such schools was a far cry and as most of those were being managed by one or at the most two teachers.

He charged Badal with playing with the future of the state by ‘neglecting this one of the most important social sectors’.
