Cong flays SAD for shielding eve-teasers

Jalandhar: Punjab Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta on Tuesday took a strict notice of the lapse of Nabha (Sadar) Police in thrashing the complainant of sexual harassment while letting off the accused owing to his allegiance to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Nimisha Mehta demanded the immediate arrest of the SAD workers, who were shielding the accused,the Nabha (Sadar) Police Station House Officer (SHO) Sukhbir Singh and investigation officer Sub Inspector Satnam Singh. The case pertains to eve-teasing of two school going girls, who were sexually harassed by three youth owing allegiance to the SAD. The congress spokesperson also lambasted the Punjab Education Department for working under pressure of the SAD and the subsequent expulsion of the two girls by the principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Dhingi.

She said that it was not for the first time that people having links with SAD were found involved in eve-teasing case. The congress leader said that on one hand Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was promoting 181 Helpline for the safety of women .
