CHHAPAAR: Punjab Congress leaders took potshots at the Badals during the party’s political conference at the Chhapaar Mela here on Tuesday.

Challenging SAD president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said, “The SAD leaders should start counting their days as the Congress will come back to power. Then I will ensure that Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia are paraded in the public for their misdeeds.”

Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar took a jibe at the Badal clan saying their claims to the food processing ministry followed by their promises to bring industry and employment to the state were “hollow”. “All Sukhbir will do is initiate new ways to sell sand and introduce the Punjabi youth to another menace of betting at race courses. How will the SAD justify selling off of 60 crore bottles of liquor in the current financial year?” wondered Jakhar.

Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu questioned the CM on his alleged failure to formulate a clear policy on drug de-addiction. “Badal is just promising the addition of beds at de-addiction centres whereas the need of the hour is to cut off the supply of drugs to Punjab to check the menace permanently, but he doesn’t talk about it,” Bittu said.

DENIED VIP PASSES

A large number of Congress leaders and workers were allegedly denied VIP passes for the entry of vehicles to the mela site. “It was only on the intervention of local MP Ravneet Bittu that the SSP (rural) agreed to issue passes to a few Congressmen,” claimed Congress leader Amarjit Singh Tikka.
