Abohar :Leader of the Opposition Sunil Jakhar today said even as the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board had approved the Centrally funded Rs 72-crore sewage and water supply augmentation project for Abohar on May 14, tenders are yet to be invited.
He was speaking during his visit to the Peerkhana shrine complex in Rajiv Nagar. Jakhar said the state government had submitted the project in January, following the directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on a public interest litigation filed by Vimal Thatai and other councillors.
He said Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had laid the foundation stone well before the final approval outside Nehru Park here in February but the project remained in limbo. “I fear the state may divert the funds to pay liabilities or hold Sangat Darshan programmes as the ruling Badals had been reportedly doing in the past. I will lead protest by people of Abohar at the CM’s residence if the funds are not utilised on priority basis for the prescribed purpose,” he said.
