AMRITSAR: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and Amritsar parliamentarian Captain Amarinder Singh has blamed the “political egos” of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab for the delaying of no-objection certificates (NOC) to plot and property holders in colonies that are yet to be regularised.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Amarinder said these egos had damage the real-estate business in the state. “Small property transactions have come to a halt, resulting in loss to small-time traders, besides harassment to those who wanted to buy the plots or houses for personal use,” said the Congress leader, adding: “The situations emerges when the partners in the ruling coalition do not trust each other and try to outsmart each other.”

The mistrust had led to a stage where the Akali leadership was wary of taking any decision that might end up benefiting the BJP, claimed Amarinder, referring to the undue delay in notifying the regularising of many colonies. The former chief minister said that in the process, the common man was suffering. “With most other economic activity at a standstill, real-estate was the only business with a bit of life; the Akalis stopped even that to damage partner,” he added.
