Jalandhar : In what may be termed as a significant political development ahead of the civic body elections in the state, People's Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal has announced that he will make efforts to bring all political parties on a common platform to pose a formidable challenge to the ruling Akali-BJP combine.

Addressing a press conference here today, Manpreet said conducting free and fair elections would be an uphill task with the SAD-BJP government in power, but he would work hard to stitch an alliance against the present regime.

Commenting on the Aam Admi Party (AAP), he said, "It is a fact that AAP got tremendous success in the state in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, but the party's graph had been on the decline for the past few months. People have already started getting disillusioned with AAP."

Manpreet also announced the party's new state body with over 2,500 party men being appointed as office-bearers of different frontal cells. In the new set-up, there would be 10 vice-presidents, six senior vice-presidents, a secretary general, 34 general secretaries, 51 members of the central committee and 2,500 members of the general council of the party.

The list of 26 new district presidents was also released. Jalandhar-based PPP leader Dr Navjot Dahiya has been appointed the chief spokesman of the party. Davinder Singh Ladi Dhose has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading the party's youth wing, which was being taken care of by Bhagwant Mann earlier.
