Chandigarh : Lashing out at what he alleged as the ignorance of the state government towards the future of 120 medical students, who had been marking their protest outside the Government Medical College in Amritsar, the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar on Monday demanded the immediate relief to these 120 medical students and their parents.
Jakhar said that the Medical Council of India had cancelled the recognition of the private college due to the shortage of staff and other facilities, in which students had taken the admission in the year 2011. He said that the future of these students was on stake and they and their parents had been protesting from the last several days.
He sought Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s personal interference in the matter to resolve the issue, so that the precious time and career of the students could be saved and the mental and physical harassment of the parents along with their wards could also be brought to an end.
Jakhar also demanded that the concerned university and state government should also make arrangements for their upcoming examinations, which were going to be held in next month.
Earlier in the day, the parents and students met Jakhar. They alleged that due to some political compulsions, the state government had been doing nothing in this regard. While responding to their problem, Jakhar assured them to provide every possible help.
