Patiala: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday ridiculed the Punjab government claims that the low demand was the reason for the closure of various power plants in the state.

In a statement issued here, Capt Amarinder Singh pointed out that the villages across Punjab were still subjected to long duration power cuts. Same was the case with the industry. He said if there was really low demand for power why were the villages and industries subjected to regular long duration power cuts.

The former chief minister said that the matter of the fact was that the state was short of coal as it had failed to ensure and guarantee regular and adequate coal supply to the power plants for the reason best known to it.
