CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Friday said he was curious to know about the relationship between the SAD and the BJP and asked the latter to clarify who actually was a backstabber.

“Is it a marriage of convenience to remain in power or are there serious ideological differences between the two parties, or is it a strategy for the BJP to break away from the SAD, to contest the 2017 elections on its own?” Khaira wondered.

He said former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, while addressing rallies in Haryana, had levelled allegations of double standards, dichotomy and political opportunism against the Shiromani Akali Dal and targeted the Badals for being “back-stabbers”.

Responding to his remarks a day later, the SAD called Sidhu a “back-stabber”, for ensuring the defeat of his once-mentor, Arun Jaitley, from Amritsar.

Khaira said, “Therefore, the Congress dares Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah to clarify who is the real “back-stabber”. If the Badals are the real culprits, then on what basis is the BJP part of the alliance government? If Sidhu is the “back-stabber”, then why has the BJP appointed him as the star campaigner? If the BJP fails to clarify its position, it would be presumed that both parties are extremely opportunist, corrupt and politically bankrupt sans any positive agenda.
