Jalandhar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday grilled SAD leader and Kartarpur MLA Sarwan Singh Phillaur, his son Damanvir Singh Phillaur and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Avinash Chander in the infamous Rs 6,000 crore synthetic drugs mafia case.

SAD leader Sarwan Singh Phillaur and CPS Avinash Chander whose name figured out prominently in the diary of Goraya-based businessman Chuni Lal Gaba appeared before the ED sleuths for the first time, ever since their names became public in the drugs mafia with its network spread across countries.

Phillaur along with his son reached the ED office at around 11.45 am and their grilling session continued till evening. Sources maintained that the ED officials quizzed the father-son duo for over five hours, while Phillaur MLA Avinash Chander reached the ED office in the evening. Recently, the ED had sent summons to MLA Phillaur, Avinash Chander and Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh after conducting detailed investigations into the drugs mafia.

The questioning of both the SAD leaders by ED officials assumed significance, as Phillaur was made to resign from the post of a cabinet minister from the SAD-BJP government post the Lok Sabha polls.
