PATIALA: The employees of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Tuesday observed a 24-hour strike against the Punjab government and their management.
They also held a massive rally in front of the PSPCL headquaters on the Mall Road. Their forum is an umbrella body of nearly 14 leading trade unions of the PSPCL. Employees are seeking filling of the vacancies, enhanced pay scale, regularisation of contractual jobs, end to privatisation of various consumer services, and government power plants.
Due to the strike, many residents faced problems in various cities in getting electricity-related work done. Union leaders Karam Chand Bhardwaj and Jagtar Singh Uppal said the strike was successful, as more than 70% of the employees had participated at the district level.
The PSPCL management has dubbed the strike as uncalled for, and a poor show.
