SANGRUR: Accusing the Punjab government of discrimination and delay in providing blue cards to poor families, the Youth Congress on Sunday blocked the Ludhiana-Delhi highway here for several hours.

Led by general secretary Poonam Kangra, the protesters alleged that they had made several visits to the officers and submitted memorandums, but did not get any response.

“In the other parts of the state, the blue card has already been issued and people are availing benefits of the scheme. But the government is discriminating with the people of Sangrur as applicants have not received their cards, even eight months after filing their application,” said Kangra. She said the people of Sangrur had made up their mind to teach a lesson to the Badals in the coming civic body elections.
