PATIALA: Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said the SADBJP government in Punjab had outlived its life, both politically as well as financially.

“Survival and not performance is the pressing priority of this government,” he said.

“The governments are not run on weekly grants and instalments,” he said in a statement issued here, while referring to the “precarious financial situation” and the “political instability” of the government that is “so-much dependent” on the Centre and the BJP now.

The former chief minister regretted that the government instead of formulating the policies and implementing these was virtually begging the Centre for finances.

Amarinder said while the Centre had provided a Rs 10,000 crore credit breather, it had already made it clear to the Punjab government to repay Rs 40,000 crore it owed to the Centre in a time-bound manner. “I am surprised the way the government has been gloating over the Rs 10,000 credit,” he said, wondering from where it would get the money to repay the Centre.

The Congress leader said that on the political front also, the position of the government was as precarious and uncertain as its finances.
