CHANDIGARH: Confident of the BJP forming the next government in the state on its own, chief parliamentary secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday said her husband and for mer Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu was the best choice to lead Punjab.
“He is sincere, honest and is not corrupt; people have faith in him and there is a positive perce ption about him. We both are party workers ready to take up any responsibility assigned by the party,” she said while talking to journalists on the sidelines of a function organised to welcome newly appointed union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Vijay Sampla.
Asking her party to break the alliance with the SAD in Punjab, Dr Sidhu said there were lots of shortcomings in the functioning of the coalition government and the BJP
was capable of running the state alone. “Our party should get out of the problematic alliance with the SAD and stop making compromises,” she said.
Dr Sidhu said what her husband spoke during campaigning in the Haryana assembly polls was in keeping with the brief given by the party high command, and he would return to Punjab only when it asked him to do so. Giving reasons for breaking the alliance, she said, “The SAD has been belittling the BJP workers; there have been instances when the BJP workers were beaten up; even now they are not heard.”
