Sangrur : Congress workers, led by former MLA Surinderpal Singh Sibia, today protested the delay in the commencement of a multi-crore sewerage project in Sangrur city. Party workers gathered near the stone of the sewerage project laid outside the zila parishad complex and raised slogans against the SAD-BJP government.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal laid the stone on February 28 last year. Had the project been set up, everyone would have had had access to sewerage facilities. A sewage treatment plant would also have been set up in the city.

Sibia said Sukhbir had betrayed the people by laying the stone without arranging funds for the project. He demanded that funds for the venture be provided by the state government immediately. He warned the SAD-BJP alliance that the people would teach them a lesson in the upcoming municipal elections.

Among others present were advocate Gurtej Singh Grewal, former municipal council president Harbans Lal, former municipal councillors Ravi Chawla and Darshan Kangra, state general secretary, Punjab Youth Congress, Poonam Kangra, and a leader of Mahila Congress, Balbir Kaur Saini.
