Bhattal takes on govt for drugs problem

Chandigarh :Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Thursday slammed the present regime in Punjab for the problem of drug addiction prevailing in the state”. She said that it was evident from the fact that Centre had ordered All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to conduct an independent survey on drug users in Punjab.

She said that even Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had raised concerns about the problem of drug addiction among youth of the state. Besides, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had recently termed problem of drug addiction in Punjab as “very serious”.

Bhattal said that in order to combat the problem of drug addiction in Punjab, the youth of the state need opportunities and congenial atmosphere for finding work and employment to sustain them. She added that it was imperative to channelise the energy of youth in positive direction as they were important component in terms of development and prosperity of the state.
