Amritsar : Peoples’ party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal today called all opposition parties to join hands against the ruling SAD-BJP alliance for the forthcoming local body elections. He said the PPP would contest the elections in an alliance with the Congress.

He claimed there was a possibility of early Assembly elections in the state given the rising discontent between the SAD and the BJP.

Talking to media persons, Manpreet said after the Delhi elections, the state BJP might pressure the Centre for an early Assembly poll as they did not want to be party to SAD’s “wrongdoings”.

He rejected the reposts of his joining the Congress. “I would not join congress, but it is necessary for a smaller party like the PPP to have an alliance partner to grow,” he said.

On Cabinet Minister Bikram Majithia’s alleged role in the drug racket, he said Majithia should come clean on this issue. “If he thinks he is not at fault, he should join the investigations. He will benefit if he comes clean in the investigations by the Enforcement Directorate,” he said.

He flayed the Punjab government for “failing” to fulfil its promises made to people.
