PATIALA: Reiterating that it is high time for Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to quit, Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday said he (Badal) had badly betrayed the public mandate.

Reacting to Badal’s claim that he had been elected by the people of Punjab, Amarinder said, “For the same reason that people of Punjab reposed their trust in you, which you badly betrayed, it becomes important that you must quit as you have run Punjab aground.”

The former CM said, “Punjab’s progressive decline has corresponded with Badal’s progressive ageing as both have turned weak and infirm. Punjab is on the brink of bankruptcy, thanks to Badal’s myopic vision that has further grown blurred and hazy with his age.”

“Good that you remember that people of Punjab have elected you for the fifth time,” Amarinder told Badal, adding that, “now please do them the favour of making a graceful exit so that Punjab is saved.”
