CHANDIGARH: People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Badal on Thursday said the Centre’s rejection of the Punjab government’s demand for ` 2,330 crore as drought relief had revealed “the utter failure and incompetence of the Parkash Singh Badal government in presenting its case convincingly.”

In a statement here, Manpreet said the refusal had to be seen in context of the repeated claims by Badal, and deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal, of money coming to the state from the Centre under the NDA regime. He asserted this was another rebuff to the Badal government by the BJP at the Centre. “People have the right to know the role of food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal in the Modi government if she cannot even forcefully pursue the case of the people of her state. The representative from the state is supposed to take care of the concerns of his or her state and being a minister in the Union cabinet was not a ceremonial post,” Manpreet said.
