CHANDIGARH: The Congress held chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, responsible for the selfimmolation attempt by a 38-year-old woman in front of the Badal’s residence on Friday.

Addressing media persons, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar said the incident had exposed the “false” promises made to the state’s unemployed youth by Sukhbir.

“Sukhbir is a dream merchant. He sold dreams of creating 10 lakh jobs and giving unemployment allowance to the youth. Where are the jobs and allowance?” he asked.

Jakhar added, “This woman was forced to take the extreme step as the ruling Badal family used to visit Golden Temple in Amritsar for their Akhand Path but never addressed her grievance. She is an orphan who was living in the gurdwara for the past 15 years. It also exposes the reality of the chief minister who claims to be accessible to people through his sangat darshan.”

Asking the Punjab government to resign for cheating the people of the state, the CLP leader produced information procured by him through the RTI Act to claim that the central funds for Scheduled Caste (SC) youth were being “misused” as the post matric scholarships were not reaching them.
