Ludhiana : Lambasting the state government for its failure to control case of crime against women in the state, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded the removal of Sukhbir Badal from the post of Home Minister.
Expressing condolences on the death of victim who succumbed to burn injuries inflicted upon her by those accused of compromising her dignity, Punjab Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta said the state government and its machinery failed to protect the victim, who, along with her family, was being pressured by the accused to withdraw the rape case against them.
“This incident has once again highlighted the shady working of the state government and the Police Department. Had the police and the state government taken timely action against the accused, the victim would have been alive,” Mehta said.
She said, “Despite the victim alleging rape, the police booked the accused under mild sections. The government should set an example by suspending the erring policemen and registering a case of corruption against them.”
During the tenure of Sukhbir Badal as the Home Minister, innumerable incidents of brutal crime against women had taken place, Mehta said.
She said Harsimrat Badal had not spoken a word on the incident. This proved that she always looked for national media attention, but when it came to getting justice in a state where her husband was the Home Minister, she would simply show her back and run away.
