AMRITSAR: Local MP Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa have ridiculed chief minister Parkash Singh Badal over “measly” pension and compensation declared for the victims of the Gurdaspur eye camp horror.

Both Congress leaders on Saturday visited the patients separately at the government eye hospital here, Amarinder in the company of state Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar, and Bajwa with former legislator Jasbir Singh Dimpa. At the hospital, Amarinder said the monthly assistance of ` 2,000 and ` 1 lakh as compensation promised to the victims were “a cruel joke”. “There is no guarantee of continuous payment,” he said, demanding that a consolidated “good” amount be released quickly. The MP said the food being served to patients was from a gurdwara and hard to chew; and from now on until discharge, his local office team would bring tea and food to the patients four times a day.
