Chandigarh : Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today hit out at the Badal government for its “inability” to ensure adequate supply of urea to meet the growing demand of farmers for the sowing season.

She said the shortage of urea would have a harmful impact on the sowing of wheat crop. She alleged it was a clear case of lack of foresight and efficiency on part of the Badal government.

She said reports of urea being sold on the black market were leading to panic buying by farmers in various parts of the state. Bhattal alleged the present regime in the state had made lofty claims that Punjab would benefit a lot after formation of the Modi government at the Centre, but all such claims had fallen flat.

She even for routine matters such as release of amount under cash credit limit for the paddy season, the Badal government was being forced to “beg” from the Centre.

The Chief Minister had to make several pleas to Central Government for the release of Rs 15,000 crore for purchase of gunny bags to stack wheat, she alleged.

On Ludhiana girl’s immolation, Bhattal alleged the law and order had worsened in the state, adding that the government had not announced any compensation for family.
