Ludhiana: Congress Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday sought a relief package for the families of terrorist victims from Union government. Bittu, while speaking in the Lok Sabha, also welcomed the Rs five lakh grant to 1984 riots victims announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bittu while raising the sensitive issue in Lok Sabha drew the attention of the House as well as the Union government towards the plight of the terrorism-affected families and sought relief for them.

While speaking, Bittu said that during the dark days of militancy, nearly 35,000 innocent people belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Christian communities and the police personnel gave up their lives in Punjab, but it’s sad that though the memorial of their killers is being erected and their photographs placed in the museum of the holy Golden Temple by the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP state government, the victims of terrorism and their families have been neglected.

Sympathising with the innocent victims who were pulled out of the buses, trains and shot dead in cold blood and bomb blasts, Bittu criticised the BJP for preaching nationalism on the one hand to the whole country and on the other hand being equally responsible by being part of the state government. The BJP should come out of the government if it thinks otherwise, he stated. Bittu demanded from the Union government to construct a suitable memorial either in Punjab or Delhi in memory of all the martyrs and provide one member of their family with a job and so as to put balm on the wounds of the affected family a financial aid of Rs 15 lakh to each family.
