Chandigarh : The main Opposition Congress party, which had on Sunday sought Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s resignation, on Monday decided to move a no-confidence motion against the SAD-BJP alliance government in the state during the ongoing winter session of the Vidhan Sabha over the issue.

The announcement to this effect was made by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar after presiding over the meeting of the CLP here, on Monday afternoon.

Jakhar said as it was BJP state president Kamal Sharma who had also raised the demand for his resignation, it was his party that should have moved the no-confidence motion or announced withdrawal of support to the SAD.

He said BJP should not continue in the government following the rejection of Sharma’s demand by the Chief Minister.

The CLP leader said BJP had been part of the Badal government for the past seven-and-a-half years and as such, could not absolve itself by just raising the demand for the resignation of Majithia.

CM ACCEPTS CHALLENGE

Chandigarh: Reacting to the Opposition’s decision to move no-confidence motion against the SAD-BJP government in Vidhan Sabha, Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma made it clear that BJP would not play in the hands of the Congress and would firmly stand by SAD.

The leader of the House Badal said, “We have great regards for the highest democratic values and traditions of parliamentary democracy, and fully respect the rights and the role of the Opposition in a democratic set-up.”

CHANDIGARH: Reacting to the Opposition’s decision to move no-confidence motion, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said the SAD-BJP government ‘fully and gladly accepts the challenge of the Opposition who has decided to move a no-confidence motion against the government in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.’BJP stands firmly by SAD

In a statement here, Sharma said that the SAD is an important partner of the NDA government at the Centre, so there is no question of supporting no-confidence motion being moved by the Congress in the ongoing winter session. He said by doing so, the Congress only aim is to gain political brownie points.
