Chamkaur Sahib : The SAD spokesman and Anandpur Sahib Member Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra criticised Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma for raising the demand of Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia’s resignation through media. Chandumajra who was here to pay obeisance on the occasion of Jor Mela while interacting with media said that he appealed to BJP to discuss bilateral issue within alliance members as releasing such statements in the media created unnecessary controversy only, said Chandumajra.
“The BJP is our ruling partner and they have all rights to make such demand,” said Chandumajra. Such demands, however, should be put at then closed doors and not the way the BJP leader raised the issue in the open and this was not good for the BJP as well, he added.
State BJP president Kamal Sharma, On Sunday while talking to The Tribune had demanded Majithia’s resignation saying that Majithia should quit in the interest of a free and fair probe. Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked Majitihia to present himself for questioning over his alleged involvement in the
Rs 6,000 crore international synthetic drug racket. Replying a query over ED’s summon to Majithia the MP said that the summons to a person did not prove that he was a guilty. Rejecting the demand of Majitihia’s resignation made by BJP and opposition Chandumajra said that Majithia has already declared that he will cooperate with ED. Putting resignation by a minister on the basis of allegations levelled by am accused would set a wrong precedent only, he said.
Replying on statement issued by Akal Takht Jathedar calling upon the Punjab government to ban the screening of the movie, ‘Messenger of God’, that features the controversial head of the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the SAD leader said any decision in this regard will be taken keeping in view the sentiments of people as well as law and order. At the political conference organised by Aam Aadmi party the state convener of party Suchha Singh Chhotepur criticizing Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for not sacking Majtihia said that many other leaders including Sarwan Singh Phillaur, and Tota Singh were asked to resign under such circumstances.
