CHANDIGARH: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar, on Thursday, said Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal should explain his demand for release of militants.
Smelling politics behind the timing of Badal’s demand, he said, “Is it quid pro quo that since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has embarrassed its alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) by asking for revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s resignation, the Akalis will now embarrass the BJP by seeking release of terrorists? The BJP should also explain its stand on the issue.”
Accusing the allies of “double-speak”, he said the chief minister had apologised in the Punjab assembly for the remarks of chief parliamentary secretary Virsa Singh Valtoha on the issue of terrorism.
“But after coming out of the assembly, he sought the release of terrorists. Likewise, the BJP had demanded the resignation of Majithia outside the assembly and sided with the SAD inside it. Badal must explain to people his demand that disrespects the sentiments of terror-hit families,” he said.
