Chandigarh : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday condemned the statement of Akali legislator Virsa Singh Valtoha for what he said, “trying to glorify terrorism and claiming himself to be a terrorist, in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha”. “You better be proud of something better, if you really have anything to feel proud of, lest you be shown the place you deserve”, he told the Akali MLA in a statement issued here.

Amarinder said Valtoha should have been expelled from the House, or reprimanded at least as such “provocative” statements can vitiate the hard-earned peace in the state and create fear among people. “Better nip this evil in the bud lest it vitiates and poisons the whole atmosphere”, he warned Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The former Chief Minister also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its “double standards” for saying one thing in the public and doing quite contrary inside the Vidhan Sabha. “BJP has also exposed itself by siding with the party despite taking a high moral ground in the public”, he observed, while alleging that the BJP was trying to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds.

“The BJP is now desperately trying to wriggle out of the situation while at the same time it does not want to give up power either”, he pointed out.
