Chandigarh : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday congratulated the Coast Guard and various Intelligence and security agencies of the country for intercepting a suspicious ferry that was coming from Pakistan and was headed towards Indian coast.

In a statement issued here, Captain Amarinder said given the way the boat caught fire and burnt down, it was most likely that it was carrying some suspicious substance which people aboard did not want to be seized.

“One thing appears to be likely that the boat was carrying the contraband as the smugglers are finding it difficult to smuggle it through the land borders”, he observed while congratulating the Intelligence and security agencies and also the Coast Guard for intercepting it and preventing it from landing on the Indian harbour.

The former chief minister pointed out that the smugglers have mostly been using the land route. However, with increase vigilance on the borders, the smugglers now appear to have adopted the sea route. He said when intercepted, the people on the boat instead of getting caught apparently set it on fire to prevent anything from getting seized and revealed as it could have exposed a greater network and a bigger game plan.
