Chandigarh : Senior Congress leader and Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh today said opium produced in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh was finding its way into Punjab.
Earlier, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal had asked the Modi government to ensure that BJP-ruled states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh stopped the sale and cultivation of these drugs. Captain pointed out that given the fact that there was BJP government in both states and at the Centre, it was the right time to evolve a consensus on formulating a national drug policy.
Capt Amarinder said BJP president Amit Shah instead of staging a dharna and awareness programme on drugs in Punjab should prevail upon his government to ban the production and trade in opium and its byproducts. “I know this is not the ultimate solution, but this can be a step in the right direction,” he remarked.
