Amritsar : A day before Akali protest against drugs at Attari international border, the state Congress has come up with a challenge for Punjab government on Sunday.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Vidhan Sabha, Sunil Jakhar has claimed that “If government is truly against the menace of drug then they should establish a check post at Attari for the checking of Akali workers as I am sure that huge quantity of poppy husk and other kind of drug will be procured from Akalis as party would bring them here after giving allurement of drugs”.

Jakhar also said, “Instead of Punjab police, the state government should allow Border Security Force (BSF) to check its workers then my claims would prove right”.

He claimed, “When Akali workers will return home from protest site then they must check through breathe analyser then another reality will come”. “The demonstration against security agency is serious and we will never allow anyone to make Punjab as Kashmir where some anti-national elements collect the support of innocent people against our own security forces”, added he.

He asserted “The objective of Punjab CM and Deputy CM over protest is totally different but one thing is clear that Punjab government would defame the people of state by agitating against security agency”.

Jakhar said, “There are several other issues including shortage of urea which needs the attention of Punjab government but ruling power is concentrating on protest against their own forces”.

“We lost in numbers but Punjab government has lost morally”, said Jakhar. He said “By demonstrating against BSF, Punjab government would affect the morale of forces which is guarding the international border efficiently”.

“The protest of Congress is against the activity of Punjab government and the party will show its solidarity to BSF which is fighting against cross border smuggling of drugs”, said Jakhar. He said “Congress workers will also protest on Attari road chowk in Amritsar”.

While reacting to the challenge of Congress, state education minister and SAD spokesperson, Daljeet Singh Cheema said, “ It is highly defamatory and derogatory statement made by Congress leader Jakhar against Akali party”.

Cheema said, “Congress leader Jakhar should apologise to Akali party for making such a remark and we condemn such baseless views of Jakhar”.
