Cong: Sukhbir has defamed BSF, arrest him for sedition

KAPURTHALA/HOSHIARPUR: Congress workers on Monday held a district-level protests against the Shiromani Akali Dal’s decision to hold dharna “against the Border Security Force” over the issue of drug smuggling across Indo-Pak border.

They also demanded that deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal be charged with sedition over this decision that has “defamed the BSF”.

Addressing the gathering, Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira said Punjab that was once known for sports culture has now become a hub of drug smugglers. He alleged that when the name of former jails minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur’s son Damanvir Singh emerged in the drug racket case, the SAD immediately demanded the minister’s resignation whereas it didn’t asks Phillaur MLA Avinash Chandar and revenue minister Majithia to resign as their names are also revealed by drug lord Jagdish Bhola during interrogation.

Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh said the SAD has taken over cable, real estate, sand, transport business in Punjab and now they want to destroy the youth’s future of by providing drugs to them.

“Just to change the issue and hide Majithia’s name in the drug-racket case, SAD is playing drama by holding dharna against BSF which is on border to protect the civilians,” he said.

Sultanpur Lodhi MLA Navtej Singh Cheema said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claims of getting back the black money from Swiss accounts and to transfer ` 15 lakh in the common people’s accounts in 100 days have fallen flat.

The Congress workers then handed over a memorandum to the President of India through the deputy commissioner, demanding President’s rule in Punjab by dismissing the government, chargesheet against the deputy chief minister and CBI investigation in the multi-crore synthetic drug racket.

In Hoshiar pur, district Congress chief and local MLA Sunder Sham Arora, former Union minister Santosh Chowdhary, former MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee and others participated. Arora said the government’s job is to maintain law and order but the SAD was trying to disturb peace.
