AMRITSAR: Condemning the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for its attempts to malign the image of the Border Security Force (BSF), Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and local MP Capt Amarinder Singh expressed solidarity with the BSF personnel.
“The Akali protests against the force could not have come at a worse time as it (the BSF) was currently fighting the Pakistani Rangers and the Pakistan army in Jammu and Kashmir and has lost so many lives in the battle,”he said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
He announced that he will be holding a solidarity programme supporting the BSF after the ‘Maghi’ celebrations, to boost the morale of the forces, who, according to him, are braving all odds. “Everybody is not like the Akalis and the BJP who are out to demoralise the BSF, ignoring the sacrifices of its jawans,” he added.
Lashing out at the Akalis for trying to malign the BSF, Amarinder remarked, “Nothing can be more outrageous and shameful than to defame and demoralise our brave men that too at a time when they are giving their lives to defend our borders.”
He said the Akalis should feel ashamed for such a treacherous act betraying the forces and so should the BJP, for maintaining silence over the issue.
“By being ambiguous and ambivalent on the issue, the BJP has virtually approved of the malicious Akali campaign against the BSF”, he said.
“The Akalis are trying to shift their own blame on the BSF”, he finally added.
