Abohar : Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar today handed over 90 carts and 2 trolleys to local residents. However, none of the officials, including the sanitation inspectors and the executive officer, turned up at the event.

Jakhar said former Union Law Minister and Congress MP Ashwani Kumar had sanctioned Rs 10 lakh to the council to purchase the carts and trolleys. He criticised the SAD and the BJP activists for failing to get funds for urban works from SAD MP Sher Singh Ghubaya in the past six years.

Jakhar said the Punjab and Haryana High Court had in his PIL directed the state to release Rs 42 crore for the renovation of fire brigades. He said he would file a contempt petition against the state government for failing to allot three heavy vehicles to the fire brigade.

Jakhar accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and state BJP of adopting double standards on the issues of drugs and terrorism. He said the alliance had become weak and that there would soon be a mid-term poll in the state.
