Patiala : Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has termed the levying of Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) surcharge at the rate of five paise per kilowatt-hour (KWh) by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) each for metered category (domestic, industrial segments) and unmetered category (farming sector) as unethical and unjustified.
In a statement on Saturday, she said that the Badal government which had been resorting to reckless spending without any care for austerity and fiscal discipline had been increasing the rates of electricity periodically putting undue burden on the people of Punjab. She said that now the levying of FCA surcharge by the PSPCL on people of state was unfair and criminal.
Not only this, she said that Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) had made big claims that power to be generated from private thermal plants would be comparatively cheaper and result in
significant benefit to consumers in the state added that it had not been the case.
She said that the PSPCL had reportedly stated that power to be generated from Talwandi Sabo Plant would cost Rs 2.36 per unit, the Rajpura thermal plant would supply at Rs 2.89 per unit and the Goindwal Sahib plant would supply power at Rs 2.69 per unit but added that power from these plants was costing over Rs 5 per unit.
Bhattal said that Badal government had failed on all fronts and lost the trust of the people of the state. She said that the Badal government was more interested in indulging in gimmicks in the form of meaningless dharnas at border rather than improving its quality of governance and resolving the issues of common man. She said that progress of state had become stymied under the present regime due to which all sections of society feeling sick of this government and wanted to get rid of it. She said that administration in the state had become inert and cropper as Badal government seemed to have shut its eyes to improve the function of administrative machinery.
