Amritsar : Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has reiterated his readiness for a CBI inquiry into the allegations of him being involved in the drug mafia provided Akali stalwarts Bikram Singh Majithia, Cabinet minister, and Virsa Singh Valtoha are also probed for similar charges.

Warring, MLA Gidderbaha, on his maiden visit to the holy city after being appointed IYC chief, said the allegations made against him were baseless and he had made his position clear on the floor of the Assembly.

He held the BJP equally responsible for the misdeeds of the Punjab Government in the past eight years. He said the proposed Amit Shah rally against drugs here on January 22 would be another attempt to pass the responsibility on the SAD.

He said that when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had taken up the matter of Punjabi youth turning to drugs, the SAD-BJP coalition government did not pay any attention to it.

Now, their own coalition’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has echoed the same sentiments in his radio programme.

“If the BJP is serious about the drug menace in Punjab, then why did it oppose the no-confidence motion in Punjab Vidhan Sabha on the issue of drugs,” he asked.

He said now his aim was to tour the country to feel the pulse of the youth and strengthen the IYC at the block level.

He wished to revive the Youth Congress of the 1980s, when it had played a major role in bringing back the party to power, for a Congress win in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

On the infighting in the Congress in the state, Warring said it was like a family dispute and it would disappear as soon as the party takes on its opponents.
