NEW DELHI: Worried over the infighting in Punjab, where the Congress sees an opportunity for revival, the party leadership may soon step in to work out a solution as former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and state party chief Partap Singh Bajwa continue to be on a collision course.

Amarinder, a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), did not attend Tuesday’s meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body.

Party general secretary incharge of organisation Janardan Dwivedi said Amarinder had informed them in advance about his inability to attend the meeting. But sources close to Amarinder said he was not able to attend it due to some “communication gap”.

A party leader said there was a likelihood of a third person being made the Punjab Congress chief while Amarinder being assured the post of the campaign committee chief and the Congress face for the assembly elections due in 2017.
