Amritsar : Gurdaspur District Congress Committee president and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has questioned the credentials of PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa to challenge former Chief Minister and Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh.
Reacting to Bajwa’s charges over loss of assembly elections in 2012, Randhawa retorted that Bajwa after losing on his home turf of Gurdaspur during 2014 Lok Sabha elections, has lost moral ground to raise questions against Capt Amarinder, who defeated BJP heavyweight Arun Jaitley in the LS elections last year.
“You (Bajwa) are eyeing the post of CM, but the reality is that, you are already rejected by the public for this post. You (Bajwa) sought votes from Gurdaspur during the 2014 Parliamentary elections for yourself posing to be the next Chief Minister of Punjab and still lost,” said Randhawa.
“You stand to be rejected by the people of your own home district, including your home assembly constituency Qadian, represented by your wife Charanjeet Kaur Bajwa,” he told Bajwa, while saying that, “It clearly means people not only rejected you as PPCC president, Member of Parliament but also rejected your ambition of being CM of Punjab. Thus, you have no moral right to question Capt Amarinder,” said Randahwa.
He asserted that Bajwa ‘by that logic you (Bajwa) should have resigned from post of PPCC president the moment you were defeated by a margin of over 1.30 lakh votes.’
Randhawa said that Bajwa had tried to play a calculated game by getting Capt Amarinder fielded from Amritsar against BJP heavyweight Arun Jaitley in the hope that he (Capt Amarinder) will lose and he (Bajwa) will be the undisputed leader of Congress.
Pathankot Cong president comes out in favour of Bajwa, slams Randhawa
Pathankot: Pathankot district Congress Committee chief Anil Vij on Sunday questioned the locus standi of Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in questioning the moral authority of state party chief Partap Singh Bajwa. In a statement, Vij said that Randhawa should not overlook the fact that Congress lost by more than 25,000 votes and 13,000 votes in 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Dera Baba Nanak segment represented by him. It was a well-known fact that on who’s indications did Randhawa canvass. It was also a well-known fact that he spent no time canvassing in which segment. Randhawa should first explain the total rout of Congress in his own constituency, which was a part of Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat before questioning others. He said that Randhawa was not only an MLA but also president of district Congress Committee in which capacity he could not insulate himself from what happened in the Lok Sabha elections.
