AMRITSAR: The criticism of Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa has irked the Congress leaders of Gurdaspur — the home district of Bajwa.

Coming to the defence of the for mer chief minister, Gurdaspur District Congress Committee (DCC) president and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Sunday questioned Bajwa’s claim — blaming Amarinder for the defeat of the party in Punjab in the 2012 assembly elections.

Reacting to Bajwa’s charges, Randhawa retorted that the PPCC chief after losing the Lok Sabha polls last year from his home turf (Gurdaspur), had no moral right to indulge in such a blame game. Before pointing a finger at the Amritsar MP, Bajwa should have given a thought to the crushing defeat of BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley from Amritsar at the hands of Amarinder, he added.

“You (Bajwa) are eyeing the CM’s post without realising that the people of your home constituency have rejected you. During the last Lok Sabha poll campaign, you went around proclaiming yourself as the next CM of Punjab, but the people still rejected you. This should have been an eye-opener for you,” Randhawa added with reference to Bajwa. Questioning Bajwa’s support base, the DCC president pointed out that in the Lok Sabha polls, the PPCC chief lost even from Qadian, the assembly segment represented by his wife Charanjit Kaur Bajwa, which is a part of the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat.

“Morally, you (Bajwa) should have quit PPCC post soon after your defeat in the Lok Sabha polls,” he added.
