LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana Youth Congress has opposed the Land Acquisition Bill.

Lodging their protest against the bill on Monday, a group from Congress’s youth wing led by president Deepak Khandoor submitted a memorandum to MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and demanded that he oppose the bill in the Parliament.

Citing their reasons, Khandoor said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a u-turn from what was promised to farmers and has adopted an anti-farmer policy. The government failed to provide even basic necessities, such as urea to farmers, and is, instead, trying to get a bill that will force farmers to sell land at cheaper rates to the central government passed.”

Khandoor said that the Youth Congress will stage a protest against the bill outside the deputy commissioner’s office on January 23.

Bittu is believed to have promised the group that the Congress will not allow the bill to be passed.

Harjinder Singh Dhindsa, Satnam Singh, Har minder Singh, Kapil Joshi and Gagnesh Prabhakar were among the group of delegates that met the MP.
