Gurdaspur : PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa’s decision to remove the Gurdaspur block president (city) has created a stir within the party rank and file.
Gurdaspur District Congress Committee president Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa claimed Bajwa was playing a “cheap politics” in his home turf and that disciplinary action must be taken against him.
Bajwa’s brother Fatehjung Bajwa, general secretary, PPCC, handed over a letter to former councillor Parshotam Sharma proclaiming him as the new block president (city) after removing the incumbent president Darshan Mahajan.
Randhawa said Bajwa had violated the AICC guidelines that stated that a block president could only be removed in consultation with the district president. “Bajwa did not consult me. I will write to the AICC to demand action against him,” he said.
Darshan Mahajan, who is considered close to Randhawa, said he had been told that he was irregular in attending DCC meetings, but it was not true. He claimed he had attended all meetings of the DCC held on the first Saturday of every month.
PPCC member Raman Bahl too said: “Mahajan has been holding meetings in his capacity as block president on every second Saturday of the month according to the AICC norms.”
Mahajan alleged he had been removed to give the post to Fatehjung Bajwa’s man.
Bajwa said he had acted on a report submitted to him by the coordinator appointed by him to oversee the functioning of both block president city and rural. When told Mahajan was taking meetings regularly, Bajwa said he would look into the matter.
