IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THE GOVT HAS FAILED TO SUPPLY UREA. THIS SITUATION IS PERENNIAL DESPITE CM BADAL PROJECTING HIMSELF AS THE CHAMPION OF FARMERS. MANPREET BADAL, president, People’s Party of Punjab
CHANDIGARH: People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal on Sunday took the state government to task for its failure to make proper arrangements for the supply of urea as the crops were at a crucial stage and further shortage could adversely affect farmers.
Manpreet said that it was strange that the state government was making claims of adequate availability of urea in the state while the ground reality was different adding that despite reports about problems being faced by farmers, the state government had failed to take adequate steps.
He said reports were now pouring in that the farmers owing allegiance to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) were getting preference in the supply of urea. “The government is not for a particular section but for the entire state and such a situation was highly condemnable,” he said.
He recalled it was not for the first time that the state government had failed to make adequate arrangement for the timely supply of urea. “This situation is perennial despite chief minister Parkash Singh Badal projecting himself as the champion of farmers,” Manpreet said.
He said time was running out fast and the shortage of urea for even a few more days would damage the crops and called upon the CM to make personal intervention to rectify the distortions in the supply line in case there was no shortage at other levels.
