Chandigarh: Punjab Local Government Minister Anil Joshi on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Union Government to include Tarn Taran in the ambit of heritage cities project. “The voice of this border district has been heard after a very long time at the Centre,” he remarked, while reacting to the Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu’s announcement to develop Tarn Taran as heritage city.
In a statement here, Joshi said it was the second gift to the people of Punjab after including Amritsar in the heritage scheme of the Centre. He said Amritsar district had been facing severe problems and disturbances due to its closeness to Pakistan border and the decision of the Centre has given its residents a much-needed succor.
The Minister said the steps were being taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote holy city of Amritsar and heritage city of Tarn Taran on international heritage map. He hoped that this would ensure an unprecedented and immense development of these cities, which would further give a fillip to this border belt.
