Chandigarh : The People’s Party of Punjab, led by Manpreet Badal, has been allotted the ‘hockey and ball’ symbol for the municipal elections. The party will put up 700 candidates across the state in alliance with the Congress.

Though disappointed at being denied the kite symbol, Manpreet said “hockey and ball symbol” represented hockey, the national sport, that was much popular in Punjab. “We are yet to receive official confirmation on the allotment of the symbol,” the PPPchief said.

State Election Commission Shivinder Singh Brar said as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), kite was not among the listed symbols.

Reliable sources said the kite symbol was available for the Haryana Assembly elections but for unspecified reasons it was missing from the list of symbols for the Punjab elections.

Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Pradesh Congress chief, said they had almost arrived at a seat arrangement with the PPP.
