CHANDIGARH: The Congress on Wednesday hailed the conviction of former Punjab minister Sucha Singh Langah by an SAS Nagar court in a disproportionate assets case. Congress leaders from Gurdaspur, his home district, said the judgment would teach a “lesson to all corrupt politicians”.
Gurdaspur Congress president and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who had defeated Langah in 2012, said, “There are several other benami properties of Langah, which he managed to conceal during the Vigilance Bureau probe. The Congress will expose such benami properties in the coming days. There should be a constitutional provision for confiscation of property of politicians or public servants, who were convicted in cases of disproportionate assets. This will work as a deterrent to curb corruption.”
Congress MLA Randeep Singh Nabha said Langah’s conviction was a ‘blot’ on the Shiromani Akali Dal. “It has exposed that the SAD does not champion any cause other than of votebank politics. The party, which criticised the Congress for corruption, now stands exposed.”
