Tota Singh blames SAD MLA for rejection of poll papers in Moga

MOGA: The cancellation of nomination papers of 10 candidates of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) and independents for the municipal council polls at Badhni Kalan town in the district led to a political confrontation between Punjab agriculture minister Tota Singh and SAD MLA Rajwinder Kaur Bhagike from Nihal Singh Wala constituency.
To register their protest against these cancellations, a large number of BJP, Congress, PPP and Tota Singh’s supporters staged a protest and blocked the Moga-Barnala national highway. Protesters raised slogans against the local MLA Bhagike as well as returning officer Jaswant Rai Dania.
Actually, this struggle for political supremacy reached a flash point some days ago during the inauguration of the reverse osmosis (RO) system at Rauke Kalan village in the area where Bhagike did not reach because the residents of the village had invited Tota Singh as chief guest for this occasion.
It may be mentioned here that the two SAD leaders were at loggerheads at Nihal Singh Wala assembly constituency while one of these two MLAs Tota Singh has his native village Didar Singh Wala and he has considerable influence in the area, the other SAD MLA Bhagike was elected from this reserved constituency.
Addressing the gathering, president of the farmers’ wing of PPP Kuldeep Singh Dhos said, “Returning officer Jaswant Rai Dania has illegally rejected the nomination papers of opposition candidates Kuldeep Singh Miana of ward number 6, his covering candidate Lall Singh, Naib Singh of ward number 8, Bibi Tej Kaur of ward number 13, PPP candidate Karamjit Kaur of ward number 7, BJP candidate Ruldu Singh of ward number 11 and four other candidates at behest of Bhagike..”
