Jalandhar : The Chairman of Scheduled Castes (SC) Department Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on Wednesday claimed that Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was the undisputed leader of Punjab Congress and that the high command should make this much needed change.
Chairman SC Department Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal without hitting out at PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa said that Capt Amarinder was the lone such leader, who could help save the Congress in the state. “The final decision lies with the Congress high command but it was must that the reins of the Punjab Congress should be given in the hands of Capt Amarinder”, he said.
Chabbewal was here in Jalandhar to announce a protest against the auction of Rs 10 lakh self-name imbibed suit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference Chabbewal said that they have also apprised All India Congress Committee (AICC) SC Department chairman K Raju about the urgent need of leadership change in Punjab Congress. “The demand was loud and clear and we want that high command to make the announcement”, he said.
The PPCC SC department chairman had prominently taken part in the ‘Lalkar Rally’ of Capt Amarinder held in Amritsar recently. “Not just the MLAs, ex-MLAs and the party workers but even people in the state believe that Capt Amarinder should be given the position of PPCC chief to lead the party in the 2017 Assembly Elections. Giving PPCC chief to somebody else and projecting another person as CM candidate would not serve the purpose”, he added.
Further talking about the ‘Anokhi Nilami’ to be held on Thursday, Chabbewal said that the Congress workers would hold an auction of the belongings of a common man and raise some money. Chabbewal also released a set of 10-questions asking PM Modi about the need to wear such an expensive suit and then hurriedly selling it.
Chabbewal along with district SC Cell chairman Jagdish Samrai said that they would sit on protest against PM Modi’s Rs 10 lakh suit outside the Deputy Commissioner office.
