Bittu takes up paramilitary force’s issues in Parliament

LUDHIANA: Local member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu raised the issue of inequality in the pay and service benefits to the paramilitary force personnel in the country in the Parliament on Friday.
In a press note issued on Friday, Bittu said the BSF guarding our borders took the first bullet of the enemy, the CRPF was doing a marvelous job in maintaining the internal security of the country, the CISF was protecting our airports, metro stations, but it was sad that the constable in paramilitary force was getting ` 5,000 less per month than his or her counterpart in the army, and when it came to the officers, the difference was a staggering ` 22,000 per month.
Talked about promotions, he said it took 29 years for the constable in paramilitary forces to reach the rank which a constable in army reached in 20 years.
The jawans of paramilitary forces got 15 days of casual leave where as army men were entitled to 20-30 days of casual leave in a year.
Bittu said on the one hand between January 2011 and January 2014, 371 personnel lost their lives fighting naxalites, on the other hand 368 personnel committed suicide.
He appealed to the government to grant the personnel of the paramilitary forces pay and service benefits on par with that of the army personnel.
